| Anyone has any idea what all the merchandised stuffs on the unicorn theme is about ? Here's an exemple : French description : "Viande de Licorne en Boîte 100 % viande de licorne bio - élevées en plein-air De la magie dans chaque bouchée Fabriqué en Irlande Dimensions env. 7,5 x 6 x 9 cm; Poids env. 120 grammes; NOOOONNNN, bien sûr que ce n'est pas de la vraie viande de licorne, mais des simples morceaux de peluche de Licorne (Licorne en peluche démembrée, pour être plus précis). Alors s'il vous plait, NE PAS manger ! Juste pour le plaisir des yeux 39 EU la boite" Translated french description : "Boxed unicorn meat 100% organic free grown unicorn meat Magic at each bite Made in Ireland 120grams Noooo of course it's not real unicorn meat, but simply pieces of unicorn pluch (dismembered unicorn plush to be more precise ) So please, don't eat ! Just for eye pleasure EU 39 per box" "4 ounces of delicious unicorn meat, canned for your convenience! Imported from a small independent cannery in County Meath, Ireland. Okay, for real: You can't eat this. It's a dismembered stuffed unicorn plush in a can! Take home these 14 ounces of delicious unicorn meat, canned for your convenience! Imported from a small independent cannery in County Meath, Ireland, there are crunchy horn bits in every bite - an excellent source of calcium. It tastes like rotisserie chicken, but with a hint of marshmallow sweetness. Easily spreadable for sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres, and more. This sparkly meat lends the unmistakable air of class and sophistication to your parties! Unlike other meats, unicorn fat is polyunsaturated and lowers your LDL cholesterol. Not yet approved by the USDA or FDA, but the nuns have eaten it for centuries and they're healthy as horses! Okay, for real: You can't eat this. It's a dismembered stuffed unicorn plush in a can. The bottom of the tin is easily removable to gain access to the mini dead unicorn inside, so no can opener needed. Unicorns, as we all know, frolic all over the world, pooping rainbows and marshmallows wherever they go. What you don't know is that when unicorns reach the end of their lifespan, they are drawn to County Meath, Ireland. The Sisters at Radiant Farms have dedicated their lives to nursing these elegant creatures through their final days. Taking a cue from the Kobe beef industry, they massage each unicorn's coat with Guinness daily and fatten them on a diet comprised entirely of candy corn. As the unicorn ages, its meat becomes fatty and marbled, and the living bone in the horn loses density in a process much like osteoporosis. The horn's outer layer of keratin begins to develop a flavor very similar to candied almonds. Blending the crushed unicorn horn into the meat adds delightful, crispy flavor notes in each bite. We are confident you will find a world of b $ 39 per uni" |

| RB, #1, re: "Anyone has any idea what all the merchandised stuffs on the unicorn theme is about ?"
I suspect someone may have gotten the idea from a joke that's been in wide circulation for a long time: Question: "How do we know unicorns don't exist?" Answer: "Because you never see an advertisement for unicorn meat."
And I assume the candy sells well enough to keep the stuff on the market, probably because the can and advertising literature make good gifts or bric-a-brac. I personally find the whole thing quite funny, though I can't imagine giving anyone this as a present or having it on display where I live.
#2, re: "Here's another ???"
IMO, the tee shirt you showed uses the unicorn as one of many different images intended to poke fun at Christian fundamentalists from a Pagan/Occultist perspective. It's making fun of the idea of "If it isn't of God, it's of the Devil."

Of course the 'real world' is what the government tells you it is' Bull crackers Something I refuse to do. Without dreams, we are nothing. I see these products and ads from the opposite perspective: they are asserting our right to have dreams, and making fun of people who say we ought to give them up. And while we're at it, here's what I said when I was a kid and some other youngster asked me where the idea that only a virgin can ride a unicorn came from. "This is because so far she's avoided getting poked by the horn a man keeps hidden in his pants." |
